Learning how to verify Paypal account is a fundamental step to be completed before starting to use PayPal. So, if you already know how to use PayPal and how to create a Paypal account, lets’ dive straight into the verification process.
After reading my guide on how to pay online, you decided to open a PayPal account. Complete the registration process, you have discovered that PayPal applies annual limits for sending, receiving, and withdrawing money to unverified accounts. So, to overcome these limits and make the most of the features of the famous online payment service, you would like to know what the exact procedure is to become a verified user.
If this is actually the case, let’s learn how to verify a PayPal account. In the next paragraphs, you will find all the information you need: first, I will tell you what are the limits imposed by PayPal for unverified accounts, after which you will learn the procedure by wire and by a sign to confirm your identity through your credit card. credit or your bank account. Checking the PayPal account is a non-mandatory procedure but is strongly recommended both in terms of security, to show reliability to its customers (in the case of online sales and payments), and to remove the limitations applied to unverified accounts.
At the time of writing this guide, an unverified PayPal account has the following annual limits: € 1,500 for sending; 2,500 euros of reception and 1,000 euros of withdrawal. Once these amounts are reached, your account is temporarily blocked and, at that point, it becomes mandatory to verify your identity through the PayPal Resolution Center, also proceeding to upload an identity document and a document to confirm your address. (e.g. a utility bill or bank statement).
In addition, verification of your PayPal account is required to make purchases and sales on some e-commerce sites. Since the verification process is not immediate, I advise you to proceed on time so as not to risk having an unusable account for days. Now I’ll explain how.
Check PayPal account with credit card
One of the solutions available to you to verify your PayPal account is to add a credit or debit card to the latter and, subsequently, confirm that you are the owner. The procedure is simple and free: here it is explained in detail.
Add a payment card to PayPal
Before explaining how to add a payment card to PayPal, you should know that you can use both a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Maestro ) and a prepaid card (e.g. HYPE, YAP, etc.).
To proceed from a computer, connected to the official PayPal website, click on the Login button located at the top right, enter your account data in the Email or mobile number and Password fields and press the Login button.
On the newly opened page, locate the Bank account and cards section and click on the Link card or bank account button. Alternatively, press on the Portfolio item in the main menu and select the Connect a card option.
Now, enter the card number in the appropriate field, make sure that the option selected in the Card type field is correct and enter the other required data in the fields Expiration, Security code (the 3-digit code shown on the back of the card) and Billing address. Then click on the Link card button to complete the connection of the card to your PayPal account.
If you are wondering if it is possible to do this from smartphones and tablets, the answer is yes. Then start the PayPal app for Android or iOS devices, log in to your account, and tap on the gear wheel icon, to access your Account Settings.
In the new screen that appears, choose the Bank accounts and cards option, press the Link card or bank account button, choose the Card item and select the type of card to add, choosing one of the options available from American Express, Discover, Maestro, MasterCard, and Visa.
Now, enter the card number in the appropriate field, specify the expiry date in the M/Y field, indicate the security code in the CVV field, and press the Connect card button, to complete the operation.
Verify a payment card on PayPal
After adding a credit or debit card to your PayPal account, to start the verification process of the latter, you must confirm that you are the cardholder in question. To do this, you must proceed from a computer or use the browser installed on your smartphone/tablet (eg Chrome on Android or Safari on iOS).
Then connect to the PayPal website, log in to your account, press the Portfolio item in the menu at the top and locate the Payment methods section, then select the payment card you added previously and click on the options Confirm your card and Request code.
Within two working days, you will receive a charge of 1.50 euro on your card, useful for verifying your identity and which will be automatically refunded at the end of the verification process. As soon as the charge is visible in the payment history of your card, write down the 4-digit code shown next to the charge, after the word PAYPAL or PP, then access the wallet section of your PayPal account again, select the card to be verified, enter the verification code in the appropriate field and click on the Confirm button.
If everything went in the right direction, your payment card will be verified and the sending, receiving, and withdrawal limits will be removed from your account. In addition, the refund of the debited amount will automatically start (the procedure can take up to 24 hours but, in some cases, depending on the card-issuing company, the times can last up to 30 days).
Verify PayPal account without credit card
If you prefer to verify your PayPal account without a credit card, you will be happy to know that in addition to using a prepaid card as I indicated in the previous paragraphs, you can also choose to connect your account to a bank account. Again, the procedure is free. It can take up to three working days: that’s all explained in detail.
Add a bank account to PayPal
To add a bank account to PayPal from a computer, connected to the main PayPal page, log in to your account and press on the Wallet item located in the top menu. In the new screen that appears, choose the Connect a bank account option, enter the IBAN in the appropriate field and click on the Accept and connect button.
Now, put the checkmark next to one of the options available between Receive an SMS and Receive a call and press the Next button, to receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS or by a phone call to be inserted, within 10 minutes, in the Security code field.
Then press the Continue button to confirm your identity and authorize PayPal to credit two small amounts, which will be shown on your bank statement within 2-3 working days.
It will be useful to know that you can also connect PayPal to your bank account from smartphones and tablets, using the application for Android and iOS devices. After starting it and logging into your account, press the gear wheel icon located at the top right and choose the Bank accounts and cards option from the menu that opens.
In the new screen that appears, tap on the + button located at the top right, select the Bank account item, enter the required data in the Country and IBAN fields and press the Link your bank account button.
Then choose whether to receive the security code to verify your identity via SMS ( Receive SMS ) or by phone call ( Receive a call ) and press the Next button, then enter the verification code in the appropriate field and tap on Continue button to complete the connection with your bank account.
Check PayPal bank account
After checking the movements of your bank account and receiving the two small credits from PayPal (in case of problems, my guide on how to access the current account may be useful ), write down the amount of the latter and access your account PayPal to complete the verification.
Press, then, on the Portfolio item in the main menu, select the bank account you have connected to PayPal and press on the Confirm bank account item, then enter the two amounts noted above in the Credited amount fields and click on the Confirm button.
By doing so, you can confirm your identity, complete the connection with your bank account and verify your PayPal account, thus removing any annual limit imposed for unverified accounts.
Check PayPal balance
If by “checking PayPal account” you intend to check the available balance on your online account or on your PayPal card, all you have to do is log in to your account from your computer, smartphone, and tablet: here’s how.
Check PayPal account statement
To check the PayPal account statement, connected to the official website of the service, press the Login button located at the top right, enter your account data in the Email address and mobile number and Password fields, and click on the Login button.
In the new open page, you can view the available balance in the PayPal Balance box, while selecting the History item in the top menu you can access the complete account statement of the movements made both in and out. In addition, by clicking on a single transaction, you can view its details, such as the payment method used, the recipient’s data, the transaction code, and much more.
It will be useful to know that you can also view the PayPal account statement from smartphones and tablets, using the service app for Android and iOS. After logging into your account, you can check the available balance directly in the PayPal Balance box.
